Question: What is an edge lit sign.
Answer: An edge lit sign is a sign which is usually made of clear acrylic or glass and has a bright source of light which is usually hidden from view The light source (usually LEDs) is directed at the edge of the acrylic, the light travels through the acrylic and wherever the light strikes a machined surface the machined surface glows brightly like a neon light. These lighted signs are the latest in lighted signage and are very inexpensive to manufacture. We can make any type of edge lit sign here at signsalive.net all you have to do is determine what you would like your sign to say. Edge lit signs can be multi colored or be any size. Edge lit signs are usually made by vee cutting lettering into acrylic with a cnc machine or etching with a laser. The advent of very bright LED lamps has revolutionized edge lit signs and signage as they are very bright, use little energy and run very cool. These cool running LED lamps can be totally enclosed in small enclosures without risk of fire or overheating. LED lamps also last a long , long time.

Question: How is a lost foam aluminum sign made.
Answer: Lost foam casting is a form of investment casting, but instead of a wax investment a Styrofoam investment is used instead. An investment is a substance which is wasted during the process of casting thus it is called an investment, you have invested this substance to obtain the finished aluminum casting. The process goes like this. First the sign is designed in a cad-cam program. It is then sent to the cnc machine where the part is machined into the investment (Styrofoam) the Styrofoam is then coated in a refractory plaster to maintain the desired finish on the part. The part is then immersed in a casting sand which is composed of clay and silica. Aluminum or bronze is then melted in a crucible and then the metal is poured into the mold. The molten metal hits the Styrofoam and the Styrofoam is instantly vaporized. The metal displaces the Styrofoam and replaces it and when it cools the new sign has been formed. Cast aluminum signs are very durable and resistant to weathering and corrosion. A cast aluminum sign can last for many years. At signsalive.net we are ready and able to meet all your cast aluminum sign needs. Cast aluminum signs can be used to mark residences grave markers and monuments. Cast aluminum signs can be finished in a great deal of colors and faux finishes. Cast aluminum signs are also very easily refinished, When they do weather or corrode they can be sandblasted or glassbeaded repainted and look like new. If you are interested in acquiring a cast aluminum sign feel free to contact us and we will quickly give you an estimate and drawings-renderings of your signs or signage.
